Story[edit | edit source]

Act 1[edit | edit source]

Gallopolis is a kingdom in the deserts of Gallopolis Region, ruled by the Sultan of Gallopolis. The party (the Luminary, Erik, Veronica and Serena), in search of a way to get to Yggdrasil like the prophecies of Arboria fortold, are directed to the kingdom by Noah-the-know-it-all. He told them in Hotto that when he and his daughter were travelling across the desert, they came down with a bad case of heatstroke; soldiers from Gallopolis took them to The Sultan's Palace, and Noah saw there a rainbow coloured branch. He figures that it is a bracnh of Yggdrasil, and the party leaves Hotto for the desert kingdom.

When they go to the Sultan of Gallopolis for a meeting, they are dismissed immediately, as he is busy thinking of his speech for the upcoming Sand National annual horse race. Suddenly, his son Prince Faris bursts into the room, and announces he has finished his training. On his way out, he observes the stature of the Luminary, nods approvingly, and then asks for the Hero's name and purpose of visiting. When the Hero introduces himself and tells him that they are there for a mysterious branch, the prince notes that they are most likely looking for the Rainbough and invites the party to his room. When they gather there, he notes that the Hero's height and physique were perfect, and that he had the face of "one who knows horses". He tells him that the Rainbough was a "priceless royal treasure", and that his father would not likely give it away to a stranger but may be swayed if the request came from his "beloved son". Faris tells them that he had but one favour to ask in return, but the palace walls were "always listening", so he tells them to meet him at the circus show in the evening, where the noise will surely cover up their conversation.

There, Prince Faris tells the party that he needs the Hero to take his place in the Sand National, which he is participating in due to his coming-of-age (becoming 16 years old). Veronica is quick to object, but he dangles the Rainbough as a prize over them, and she relents. He reassures them, saying that the royal family always wears armour covering their face when they rode, so the Hero would ride undetected. The party sleep at an inn room that he had arranged for them, and the next morning the Hero performs in the race. Note that the jester that starred in the performance the night before, Sylvando, took Faiz's place in the race, as the latter had a sudden injury before the race. After the race, in the royal changing room, Sylvando walks in on Prince Faris and the Hero together, both in the royal armour, and figures out what happened, but promptly leaves.

When the Prince goes to the Sultan to ask for the Rainbough for the travellers, intending to fulfill his side of the deal, there is a sudden commotion. A soldier runs in saying the Slayer of the Sands, a creature that terrorizes the kingdom every day on the Sand National that no man has ever defeated before. The Sultan is peeved and tells Faris that he must capture the Slayer, and the prince is mortified. He tells the party to come to his room again for another meeting, before begging them to help him capture the creature, to which the party reluctantly accept. Later, after exiting the kingdom gates, Sylvando decides he wants to join their team, and joins as a temporary party member. After capturing the Slayer, the party returns to the Kingdom, to which the prince takes all the credit for himself. However, the Slayer wakes up in the middle of the kingdom, and the prince almost backs out of fighting it, before Sylvando reminds him what it is to be a knight and he is motivated to show a valiant effort in fighting back the creature, wanting to be remembered as a knight of Gallopolis. When his sword breaks, and he makes one last effort to charge at the monster, Sylvando kills it swiftly with his rapier before walking off. Both the prince and the Sultan are astonished, and the latter asks where he learned both the horse-riding and swordsmanship from. Sylvando replies that he was "just a jester" and leaves.

Later, in the throne room, the Sultan confronts Faris's cowardice and asks if it was really the Hero that rode in the Sand National and captured the Slayer. The prince begrudgingly admits this, and then tells his father that the party should have the Rainbough that they came in search of as repayment, but the Sultan says that he had sold the branch to a wandering trader to fund the grandoise Sand National celebration, and that they head in the direction of Gondolia. The prince is distraught and offers the crackshot crossbow as scarce compensation, and the King gives them papers allowing them access to Laguna di Gondolia.

Act 2[edit | edit source]

Gallopolis's story in Act 2 centers around Erdwin's Lantern (the Dark Star), where it is seemingly falling towards the pillars of the Celestial Sands. When the party (the Luminary, Hendrik, Sylvando and Rab; it is possible to re-recruit Erik, Jade and Serena beforehand, but they will not show in cutscenes) arrives at the Sultan's Palace for an audience about the lantern, the Sultan tells them that his son had claimed to be able to make out runes on the surface of the lantern, and went to the Celestial Sands with a scholar to investigate. When the party arrives at the northern Gallopolitan checkpoint in the desert, they see his accompanying scholar back out of the investigation in fear. The presence of Rab, who figures he might be able to help, allows the party in to the general area, which is blocked off to most other people. There, they see the lantern become ever closer; just when Rab makes out runes saying "Ca", "las", and "mos", a shadowy figure comes from the sky and stabs the lantern with what the party can make out to be the Sword of Shadows, and the lantern promptly explodes. The party realises that the figure must be the Lord of Shadows, but where Prince Faris and the rest of the Gallopolitans are concerned, the figure is hailed a hero that saved Gallopolis from certain doom.

If the Hero is in search of the Forging Hammer, then afterwards the Sultan parts with it for the party.

Act 3[edit | edit source]
