Heliodor Castle is a location in Dragon Quest XI. It is found in the city of Heliodor and is where King Carnelian rules. The castle is situated at the northern-most part of the city's upper-class region. At the bottom level of the castle is the entrance to the dungeons and the sewers.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Heliodor Castle is accessed by climbing two sets of stairs at the Royal Square. Located just outside of the castle's gates is a majestic golden statue of the two-headed eagle of Heliodor. Two guards posted outside prevent anyone from entering the castle without permission. The interior is decorated in a lavish style chiefly in red, gold, and black. On the bottom floor, there is a fountain and another golden statue of Heliodor's two-headed eagle situated between the Great Stairway that leads upstairs. Inside of the courtyard on the west side of the bottom floor, there is a tree with one of the roots of Yggdrasil growing around it, holding three memories of the soldiers Hendrik and Jasper, who are right-hand men to the king and also live in the castle, in rooms to the east and west respectively. Continuing north of the west hallway is are the stairs that lead to the Upper Level of the dungeons. The kitchen is found at the northern side of the bottom floor of the castle. Behind one of its cupboards, there is a hidden staircase that leads to the king's bedchamber on the middle floor.

The middle floor can be alternatively accessed by climbing the Great Stairway, which leads not only to the Throne Room in the very north of the castle but also lead to various guest chambers south of the stairway reserved for honoured guests of the king. Before reaching the Throne Room, the path divides into two stairways on either side, leading to the Top Floor of the castle, which has two pathways both leading to the balcony. Nothing particularly of interest is on the top floor, other than some wall decorations.
