The Dragon Family (ドラゴン系, Doragon-kei?, lit. Dragon-type) refers to monsters in the series that take on forms of traditional Western and Eastern dragons, along with other reptiles like dinosaurs, turtles, and serpents. Occasionally, dragon-shaped monsters or pallet-swaps are classified as members of the Aquatic or Beast families. Additionally, this family is referred to as the Beast family in Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart.

The shapes and capabilities of dragons within the series are as varied as in real-world mythology. Many of them have the ability to breathe out fire and in turn, their scales offer them some protection against fire spells and attacks.

Effective weapons and skills
