Souped-up skills

Souped-up skills (超絶技 Chō zetsugi, "Super techniques") are powered-up versions of skills and spells introduced in Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake. They are unlocked upon obtaining the Soul Sigil and can only be used in dire situations (less than 50% HP) or when the character is under specific conditions. The specific conditions are unique per each character.

The name "souped-up skills" is a misnomer, as spells are also included in this category.

Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]

The powerful techniques are unlocked upon creating the Soul Sigil in the Faerie Village.

The souped-up skills can be triggered when the hero has less than half his maximum HP or when he is under the effects of the Reheal spell or the Focus Pocus ability. To use a souped-up skill, the player must select a spell or ability that can be souped-up and hold down the left face button while still on the menu. A green pattern will appear under the technique's name, activating the souped-up skill once the pattern has fully appeared.

Note that Gigagash and Erdrick's Fire can only be used when Princess Gwaelin has been powered-up by Goddess Rubiss and prays for her Hero's victory in battle, which is triggered at random when she accompanies him. This can be accomplished by returning to Castle Tantegel as soon as the player obtains the magic key in Rimuldar to take the Sunstone from the Hermit dwelling in the castle, and then not return to Tantegel Castle until the Dragonlord has been slain.
