Hypnowhip is an ability in the series.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
This skill, normally performed with a whip, deals slightly more damage than a normal attack to either a single enemy or a group of enemies and has a chance of inflicting confusion, as well.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Hypnowhip costs 7 MP to use, inflicting 30% more damage than a normal attack and having a chance to confuse a single group of enemies. The Princess of Cannock learns the ability naturally at level 27, while the Princess of Moonbrooke can learn the skill by using the Hypnowhip Scroll, which is found in a treasure chest on 4F of the Tower of the Moon. It can be performed with any weapon equipped.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]
Hypnowhip can be learned Thieves starting at level 25 if their Wisdom exceeds 63 points. It inflicts 110% Strike damage to a group of enemies with a 1⁄3 chance to inflict Fuddle per enemy before resistance applies, and costs 7 MP to use. Unlike other games in the series, the skill can be used with any weapon. On the enemy side, it can be used by Tentacular.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]
In the Nintendo 3DS version, Red will learn Hypnowhip after allocating 10 skill points into the Whip skill. It functions identically to it's counterpart in IX and costs only 2 MP.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]
Hypnowhip is learned by allocating 3 skill points into the Whip skill, costing 3 MP to use. It deals the same amount of damage as a normal attack to a single enemy and has a 13% chance of inflicting confusion.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]
Hypnowhip can be learned by Mages, Thieves, and Monster Wranglers by allocating 3 skill points into their Whip skill, while Fortune Tellers can learn it after investing 160 skill points into their Whip skill. It costs 3 MP to use, has a range of three meters, inflicting 110% damage and having a 75% chance to confuse a single enemy for forty seconds.
- In the Offline version of the game, the skill can be learned by the Hero in the aforementioned vocations and Duston through the Whips panel in their Character Builders for a single skill point. It inflicts 120% damage to a single enemy and has a chance of confusing them. The damage and success rate of inflicting status effects can be increased further with skill-up panels in the Character Builder.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]
Veronica and Sylvando can learn the skill through the Whips panel in their Character Builders for 3 skill points. It costs 5 MP to use and targets a single group of enemies, inflicting 110% damage to the first enemy, and has a 25% chance of inflicting confusion on any enemies with no resistance.
