The Great sabrecub is a monster in the series.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Great sabrecubs are the infant forms of great sabrecats, having spotted orange fur, fiery red manes running down their backs, and long tails. They have not yet grown into their sabre-like fangs. Although the sabrecubs will occasionally make slashing attacks much like their adult forms, they are also just as likely to waste their turns in battle frolicking.
Appearances[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit | edit source]
The first appearance of the Great sabrecub, and also the first monster the Hero befriends in the game. Starting with the Nintendo DS remake, they can no longer be encountered in the wild, being replaced by the Jailcat, though the Hero and Bianca still befriend a sabrecub. This replacement may have been performed to make its acceptance into the party more convincing, as many NPCs only regard it as a 'strange cat', though a few recognize what it is and what it will eventually become.
Though the species is no longer encountered in the wilderness in the DS and smartphone versions, they can occasionally be seen fighting in the Monster Arena.

Dragon Quest Builders[edit | edit source]
In the Nintendo Switch version of Builders, a great sabrecub can be encountered in Terra Incognita. After being saved, it can be ridden to travel faster and assist in combat. When jumping on enemies, they will always drop the Pixel material.
Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit | edit source]
Dragon Quest Tact[edit | edit source]
Great sabrecub appears as a D-rank monster of the Beast family. It can be recruited from Chapters 4-7, 7-2, 12-4, and 12-7 of the main storyline, as well as the Great Sabrecat Priest stages of Majellan's Rebellion! of the Beast Fest at any difficulty. It stars in its own Battle Road and it can participate in the Battle Roads of Majellan and Alphyn as a party member.
