Schadenfreude is learned with 76 skill points allocated into [[List of whip skills in Dragon Quest IX|Whip skill]]. It damages one group of enemies for 5 MP, and restores 1/4th of the damage dealt to the first enemy to the practitioner.

An improved version of the technique exists, ''Queen's Thong''. The skill now restores 1/4th of the damage dealt, and deals an additional 25% more damage to the first enemy struck. Mastering this skill requires 82 points.
