The Road To Dragon Quest - Making Of Dragon Quest (ドラゴンクエストへの道) is a dramatised manga focusing on how five key figures made it possible for Dragon Quest to be developed as we know it. The manga is written by Shotaro Ishinomori (known for Kamen Rider and Super Sentai) and drawn by Hiroyuki Takizawa. It was first published by Enix on February 2, 1990. It was later re-released by Gangan Comics (ガンガン) on September 20th, 1991 with some cut content.
Plot[edit | edit source]
The manga starts with Kōichi Nakamura and Yuji Horii meeting for the first time at the Enix First Annual Hobby Program Contest. They both won with their respective entries for the contest and soon after they met the third key figure in this story: Yukinobu Chida, president of Enix at the time.
The manga shows what Horii and Nakamura went through between that moment and the making of the original Dragon Quest game. Later on, the manga shows how Akira Toriyama and Kōichi Sugiyama got involved in the development of the beloved series.
