The Shrine West of Moonbrooke is a shrine in Dragon Quest II. It is located on a small island to the southwest of Moonbrooke Castle and serves as a checkpoint that divides the east and western sides of the central continent of Alefgard.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit | edit source]

The shrine is a simple, man-made structure occupied by a priest. The player can reach the shrine as soon as they have reached the central continent from Gwaelin's Gate, although the priest won't allow them to cross until the Princess of Moonbrooke has joined the party. It is also necessary to acquire the Windbraker from the Pillar of Winds to progress further before reaching the Dragon's Horns. Across the bridge, there is a teleportal that leads to the Shrine North of Beran, locked behind a door that requires the Golden key to open.

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake[edit | edit source]

The shrine has been redesigned completely into a natural underwater cavern and it is guarded by soldiers from Moonbrooke that managed to escape its destruction. Initially, they are skeptical of the party's identity and refuse to let them pass without showing proof of their identities. The two Princes display the Mark of Midenhall and the Mark of Cannock respectively, while the Princess shows them the Windbraker, which was previously worn by the King of Moonbrooke, as the Mark of Moonbrooke was lost during the attack on the castle. The guards apologise for their insolence and allow the Scions to pass through, warning them that the monsters beyond the shrine are fiercer than those they have faced up to that point.
