The Peckerel is a monster in the series.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Peckerels are tall flightless birds like ostriches or emus with dark teal plumage and serpentine heads. They have lighter teal undersides and a long thin tail ending in a sharp point. Their tails are coated with a toxin that they use to paralyse their victims and they can even instantly kill them with Assassin's Stab. In Dragon Quest X, they have also gained the ability to spit out ink to blind their opponents. Their name is a play on the words "peck" and "cockerel".

Description		They fly fast at their foes with paralysing attacks, and treat troublesome opponents to an Assassin's Stab. They're forever forgetting the paralysing poison on the points of their tails, and itching themselves immobile by accident.

During Quest #83: Beautiful Bowginnings, the player must defeat ten peckerels with Flutter Disaster and then return to Archie, the bow teacher, at Swinedimples Academy.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

Peckerels appeared from the beginning of the game. They are still able to perform Assassin's Stab and can also squirt out a spurt of jet-black ink that can blind characters.
