Imported content[edit source]
Templates[edit source]
Imported 10/18/10 - 10/20/10
Almost all templates were imported. After import, several were deleted for being unnecessary/excessive or for being utilized to hold content. In all honesty, these probably should not have been imported and/or should have been deleted on Wikia. Having templates which hold content leads to page size errors as everywhere the template is called, it is transcluded in its entirety. Therefore, successive calls to a template grow the page size considerably. These types of templates should be avoided.
Evidently, calling a subpage template ({{/doc}}) does not work by default in MediaWiki. These calls can be updated and fixed by substituting {{{{PAGENAME}}/doc}}.
CSS and Javascript[edit source]
Imported 10/20/10
The Common.css and Common.js files were imported. Each file then had portions which were specific to Wikia removed. Among the most useful portions of the javascript imported is the Ajax loader for Special:RecentChanges. Checking the box at the top causes the page to dynamically load updates without a refresh.
Categories[edit source]
Imported 10/20/10
A filtered list of categories was imported. Many Wikia categories were not included as they were ones that should not have existed anyway. This will help to be able to view category trees once some of the main content has been imported.
Images[edit source]
Imported 10/23/10 - 10/24/10
All images from Wikia were imported into the new wiki. This was about 3800 images! Most are enemy sprites and not very large in size. The total size was around 137MB. Having all the images in place will ensure there are not broken links when articles are imported.
Articles[edit source]
Imported 10/26/10
Nearly all articles from the main, talk, template_talk, and category_talk namespaces were imported. Several articles (around 5) had very large export files and have yet to be imported.
Imported 10/28/10
Imported articles which contain a colon (:) in the title. These had previously been skipped due to a bug in the software.
Imported the remaining larger export XML files manually.
Content that will not be imported[edit source]
Dragon Quest Wiki namespace[edit source]
This namespace has been customized specifically on the new wiki. There is not a great need to import these.
Mediawiki namespace[edit source]
Same as the Dragon Quest Wiki namespace, this has been customized for the new wiki.
Forum namespace[edit source]
We are using the Dragon's Den forums as they are better overall. Not much content in the old forums.
Video namespace[edit source]
Not much content here and differences in video extensions could create problems. Easier to just start fresh.
