Beguiling is a status ailment which causes its victim to waste a turn admiring the beauty of an enemy. It is similar to the charm ailment, with the difference that beguiling does not make its victim attack their allies.

It is known as bedazzlement, enthralling, or mesmerizing, depending on the game.

Appearances[edit | edit source]

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit | edit source]

It was introduced in the MSXII version of Dragon Quest II, where the princess of Moonbrooke had an 1/8 chance to enthrall her enemies when wearing the scandalous swimsuit.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit | edit source]

Equipping the robust lingerie gives Milly and Ashlynn a 116 chance to beguile enemies for one turn.

Users of the luminary vocation have a chance to enthrall enemies at the start of the turn. The chance increases by advancing the proficiency of the vocation, but cannot be stacked among multiple luminaries: Only the one with the highest chance will be used to calculate the result. The chance of increases with proficiency:

Chances of bedazzlement
Vocation proficiency Chance of bedazzlement
Rank 1 None
Rank 2 None
Rank 3 132
Rank 4 132
Rank 5 132
Rank 6 132
Rank 7 132
Rank 8 116

The chance of beguiling stacks up by having a luminary wear the robust lingerie.

Additionally, one of Ashlynn's Lucky Dip actions can cause enemies to be mesmerized by her.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]

Both the Luminary and Goodybag vocations can mesmerize enemies at the start of the turn. Their chances of succeeding depend on their proficiency:

Chances of bedazzlement
Vocation proficiency Chance of bedazzlement
Rank 1 None
Rank 2 None
Rank 3 132
Rank 4 132
Rank 5 132
Rank 6 132
Rank 7 132
Rank 8 116

While somewhat different, the Rockbomb (vocation) can make enemies skip their turn, making them fear they might explode. The chances of success are the same as for the luminary and goodybag vocations.

Maribel wearing the skimpy nightie has a 16 chance to beguile monsters, a much higher rate than any other option.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined[edit | edit source]

In Reimagined, it works similarly to how it did in the original game.

A few weapons have a chance to beguile, like the Butterfly Baton or the Monster Slashers.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit | edit source]

Allocating points into Jessica's Sex Appeal grants her the chance to beguile enemies at the start of the turn. Allocating 16 skill points grants her a 116 chance to mesmerize monsters, while allocating 78 skill points increases that chance to 18.

Successfully mesmerizing someone completely resets their tension.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]

In Dragon Quest IX, the enthralling status effect depends on the charm stat and can be triggered by any character. The Extreme Makeover skill doubles charm, effectively increasing the chances of bedazzling enemies.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]

It works similarly to how it did in IX, and it also can be triggered by monsters.

Additionally to being temporarily stunned, beguiling might also cause paralysis, confusion or to become charmed.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit | edit source]

Monsters might be enthralled depending on the party member's charm stat. Sylvando, Jade, and even Hendrik have a good chance to bedazzle enemies.
