The Maw of the Necrogond is a cave in the overworld of Dragon Quest III. The cave connects to the Necrogond Shrine, which is the location of the Silver Orb.

The cave is notable for its high level of difficulty compared to locations visited prior to it, befitting its status as the final dungeon of the overworld. Winding paths, pitfalls, and strong monsters wage a war of attrition on the party's resources and it is not uncommon for players to be forced to retreat on their first attempt through the cavern.

Remake changes

The first, second, and fifth floors of the cave are used as part of the Cloudsgate Citadel dungeon, with stronger monsters wandering the tunnels.
