The Drag-goof is an awkward-looking dragon, particularly its head, an over-sized affair backed with four large horns and a face which consists of four large whiskers, widely spaced eyes looking off in opposite directions, and an open-mouthed grin that shows off its gums and gaped teeth. It has a somewhat prominent belly, small wings and forelimbs, and a thick, spiked tail. The dragon's scales are primarily blue in colour with a yellow-white underbelly. They are able to perform violent grabbing attacks despite their short arms. Although the drag-goof has not reappeared in the main series, it has made regular appearances in spinoff games.
Drag-goofs can first be encountered shortly after obtaining the ship, namely in the regions surrounding the Knot Welcome Inne. It is possible to recruit drag-goofs, the monsters having decent stats and access to breath attacks that can encumber and inflict damage.
The MadDragon is a two-star member of the Dragon family with a weight of 3. It naturally learns Poison Breath, All-out and Panic Dance. Its in-game description reads "It's said that the words 'foolishly strong' were first used to describe a Mad Dragon."

Drag-goof appears as a B-rank monster of the Dragon family during the first part of the limited True Dragon Quest V event. It can be scouted from Chapter 2, Episode 4 of the event quests and it can be fully awakened by repeating the quest at any difficulty. The drag-goof can participate in Pankraz Gotha's Battle Road as a party member.
