The rockbomb shard is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. When thrown, it creates a small explosion that damages enemies.

Appearances

Dragon Quest V

Rockbomb shards can be purchased from item shops at later points in the game for 450 gold apiece. When used, they function identically to the Boom spell and deal 52~68 damage to all enemies.

Dragon Quest VIII

Rockbomb shards can be purchased from item shops at Arcadia and Tryan Gully for 450 gold apiece. Naturally, they can also be dropped by Rockbombs and Bomboulders after battle. When used, they pulverize all foes for 48~96 damage. A rockbomb shard can be combined in the Alchemy Pot with a wizard's staff to create a magma staff.

Dragon Quest IX

Rockbomb shards can be harvested in regions such as the Gittish Empire, making them far more common than in previous games. Aside from causing 20~30 damage in battle, they're also used in many alchemy recipes.
