The Gas canister is a key item in Chapter 5 of Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen. It is a gas lighter than air necessary for making the hot air balloon.

The party finds the gas canister in Estark's Crypt, and afterwards they take it to a mechanic in Riverton, who uses it to make his prototype balloon.
