The Foo dog is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest IV.
Characteristics
Foo dogs are large beasts that are a cross between lions and rabid dogs with silvery white fur, a golden mane and tail and gold tufts of hair on its legs and paws. It has glowing yellow eyes and drool trailing from its fang-lined mouth. In the Monsters spinoff games, the foo dogs are part of the Material family as a reference to the guardian lion dog statues they are based on.
Appearances
Dragon Quest IV
Two foo dogs at either side of Master Kung are encountered in a boss fight in Dragon Quest IV. Master Kung demands sacrificial female victims brought to an altar behind the church in Taborov.
Dragon Quest X
Foo dogs appear as regular enemies in the Western Azlan region of the Eltona continent. It is capable of raising its Tension in battle with Psyche Up.

Foo dog first appeared as a D-rank monster of the Beast family as part of the limited Dragon Quest IV event, eventually appearing in the main storyline in Chapter 18, Episode 1: Approaching Castle Town. It can learn Lightning Slash and Attack Prep naturally and can take part of Ragnar's Battle Road as a party member.
