The cumaulus is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a grey cloud come to life that can cast fire spells.
Cumauluses are small grey clouds with sinister human faces on them, capable of floating around like normal clouds. Its puffy features give the cloud's face the appearance of having chubby cheeks. They are also capable of dispersing their entire bodies and reforming them in order to attack. While not particularly powerful on their own, they can quickly become nuisances since they appear in large groups and can attack foes with fire magic. In X, the cumauluses instead gained the ability to manipulate lightning and cast Zap against opponents instead.
Cumauluses appeared from the beginning of the game. They are now able to cast Zap on opponents instead of Frizz and can boost their evasiveness by hiding themselves with clouds.
A monster masquerading as a cloud that floats high o'er vales and hills, blasting passers-by with thunderbolts. When the wind picks up, they get blown off over the horizon, and have to fly for miles to find their way home.
Cumaulus appears as a statue and is Treasure No. 521 in the Monster Statues 1 category. It can be found on the Wingswept Moors and its base value is 80,000 gold.
Cumaulus appears as an E-rank monster of the Inorganic family as part of the True Dragon Quest III event. It can be scouted from the Gaia's Navel stage of Awaken! Ramia at any difficulty and it can participate in Ramia's Battle Road as a party member.
