"Janey Mac, what would me mam say!? I never saw anytin' so titillatin'. It won't do much to protect y'in an attack, but folk pay a fair price fer gear like this. It's fer yer young dancin' wan, Maya, this one. An' maybe Meena, too."

—Torneko, when he appraises the dancer's costume

The dancer's costume is a recurring set of clothing in the Dragon Quest series that first appeared in Dragon Quest IV. It is a provocative set of clothing that can only be equipped by female characters.

Appearances

Dragon Quest IV

The dancer's costume has a defence bonus of +8 and is part of Maya's initial equipment. In the original NES version, it could be equipped by both Maya and Alena. However, in remake versions of the game, Alena can no longer equip it, while Meena gains the ability to do so. It can be purchased for 400 gold in Femiscyra and sold for 300 gold. One set can also be found in the Palais de Léon and they can also be dropped by Elepuses and Mimics.

  • If Torneko appraises the dancer's costume, he is shocked at how scandalous the outfit is, stating that it won't offer much protection in battle. He says that the outfit suits both Maya and Meena, but that it probably wouldn't fit him due to his size. Torneko then states that he wouldn't mind buying one himself to wear at home for the right price, then conspicuously denies that he's a crossdresser.

Dragon Quest V

The dancer's costume has a defence bonus of +20. It can only be worn by female characters. It can be purchased for 1,300 gold in Mostroferrato and sold for 975 gold. They can also be dropped by Hula ghouls, Magic marionettes, and Suckling ockers.

Dragon Quest VI

The dancer's costume can be purchased for 1,300 gold in Reidock, Arkbolt, and Felonia and sold for 975 gold. It has a defence bonus of +20 and a style bonus of +25. It can only be equipped by Milly and Ashlynn.

Dragon Quest VII

The dancer's costume has a defence bonus of +20 and a style bonus of +25. It can be equipped by Maribel and Aishe. It can be purchased for 1,500 gold in Pilgrim's Perdition and can sold for 750 gold. Dancer's costumes can be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.

Jessica in the Dancer's costume

Dragon Quest VIII

The dancer's costume has a defence bonus of +23. It can be purchased in Pickham and Baccarat for 1,300 gold and can be sold by the player for 650 gold. It can only be worn by Jessica, and changes her appearance accordingly. Dancer's costumes can also be dropped by Squid kids and Puppet masters. The dancer's costume can also be used in a few recipes for the Alchemy Pot:
