Bjørn the Behemoose is an ancient and horrifying demon from long ago who was sealed away by the Briscoletti Family roughly 150 years ago due to his monstrous power. He is a major boss in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride and is notable for being one of the largest bosses in the series, easily being the size of a small mountain with large patches of moss/grass growing on parts of his body.
History
Bjørn was sealed away in the The Pothold by Rodrigo Briscoletti's ancestor, Rudolfo, approximately a century and a half before the game's story. Though the seal is strong enough to compress the giant into a man-sized jug, the strength diminishes overtime and has caused great worry for Rodrigo. The player gets a hint of Bjørn's presence if they choose to marry Nera or Debora, as their new father-in-law will send them off to check the trap's status after the wedding.
Eight years later, regardless of the player's spouse, the seal will have weakened to the point that Bjørn is able to free himself. Having a deadly premonition, Rodrigo beseches the Hero and his party to stand guard at the tower just outside of Mostroferrato while he performs last minute research to duplicate his predecessor's magic. One freed, Bjørn heads straight for Mostroferrato, stopping only at La Guardia to ask the Hero where Rudolf is--as Crispin later points out, while 150 years may have passed in the outside world, it must have felt like a scant few days for such a massive creature. None too concerned that his nemesis is not currently present, Bjørn begins his rampage by assaulting the party.
After his defeat, Bjørn's body disintegrates as his soul is pulled back into the pot. The Ultimate key and colossal hoofprints are the only traces of his presence, causing Rodrigo to become overjoyed that no harm had come to his beloved family or town. Later, in the post-game, players who have already recruited Starkers can return to the Pothold and inspect the container once more. Bjørn will escape again, but this time in a diminutive reincarnation that he dubs Rebjørn. The demon's temperament has dulled after his beating, and he asks to join the party. Rodrigo's sealing technique is responsible for the bull's belittling, but the new body is incredibly powerful in it's own right: beyond the son of Estark, there is no stronger monster ally in the game once he reaches level 99.
