The gothic mitre is a piece of headwear introduced in the 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII. It is a sacred white hat decorated with a holy symbol that protects the wearer from negative status ailments.

The gothic mitre has a defence bonus of +36 and reduces the accuracy of whack, snooze, fuddle, and paralysis effects by 1/2. It can only be equipped by the Hero and can be purchased from the Baccarat Casino for 25,000 tokens. When worn together with the gothic vestment, it changes the Hero's appearance.
