The joker's soaker is an item in the NES and Famicom versions of Dragon Quest III. It squirts water on an NPC when used, eliciting comical reactions from the drenched person. ==Appearances== ===DQ3=== The joker's soaker is given to the Hero 3 by a child in Mur who knew Ortega, as with the rest of the villagers, by the name of "Peredvizhnik". Ortega had spent some time in the village during his journey to slay Baramos, made the toy and gave it to the child as a keepsake. Human NPCs will simply react to the water being cold when used on them, but when used on animals the response will be "Huh?". Used on an empty tile the standard "But nothing happens!" line will be displayed. The gag item was replaced by Ortega's Helm in the 1996 Super Famicom remake, with the keepsake being implemented to establish a stronger bond between players and the father of their digital avatar due to Ortega only being mentioned by name prior to the game's finale in the original version. ===DQ7=== The joker's soaker was added in the 2013 Nintendo 3DS remake. It is a proper weapon this time around, increasing attack by +39 and style by +7 when equipped by the Hero 7 or Aishe, and is the reward for clearing the Daredevil's Distraction DLC Tablet. Humorously, the weapon's descriptions mentions how it would have been perfect for a prankster like Kiefer. ===DQTreasures=== The soaker appears as treasure No. 256 in the key items category, with a base value of 35,000. ==Trivia== *Despite being fully localized into English under the modern Square Enix standard, the item has never appeared in it's game of origin due to its removal in all subsequent versions of Dragon Quest III since 1996. ==Gallery== <gallery><center> Joker's soaker treasures icon.jpg|treasures </center></gallery>
