In Dragon Quest X, alchemy is a big deal, with it being key through the game's story at multiple times. It is already present in the prologue of the game, where the protagonist's sibling crafts a "happy hat" for them. Alchemy and it's uses later become a greater topic in Version 4, where a certain lost civilization had great technology advancements due to their mastery of alchemy.

Alchemy is also the focus of two of the crafting professions: jar alchemy and lamp alchemy. The jar-based alchemist profession allows players to add physical-oriented stat increases and effects to equipment (ie: Critical Rate +1% or Attack +6), while the lamp-based one can add magic-oriented effects and bonuses (ie: Magic Might +5 or Spellcasting Speed +2%).

There is also an alchemy pot similar to that from Dragon Quest VIII. In this game, the alchemy pot serves two purposes: creating items and dying weapons and shields. The player-usable alchemy pot is obtained in Version 2.3, and can be used at any city or settlement from the items menu. There is a limitation, however: the pot must recharge between uses. The amount of time needed for it to recharge varies depending on the item created, and the amount.

Note that in this game, alchemy does not produce equipment of any kind. Equipment is obtained though other means, including crafting (weaponsmithing, sewing, etc), from monster drops, from the player market, or as rewards from side-content.
