In the 3D mode of the game, king squids are aided by their left and right tentacles, which will act independently either attacking one character at a time, lashing out and damaging the entire party, or shielding the squid from damage. The battle will end if the main body is defeated before its tentacles. In the 2D modes of the Nintendo 3DS version and the ''Definitive Edition'' of the game, King squids will be aided by a pair of [[Squid kid|Squid kids]] instead.
