==Etymology==
[[Wikipedia:Shiva|Shiva]] (also spelled as Śiva) is named after the male Hindu deity of the same name. He is the god of destruction and is part of the Triumvirate, which also includes Vishnu, the god of preservation, and Brahma, the god of creation. Shiva once saved the world by consuming a powerful poison, which gave him blue skin around his neck and throat. Although Shiva is a male deity, he can merge with his consort Parvati and become the [[Wikipedia:Ardhanarishvara|Ardhanari]], a half-male, half-female god of duality.
