A Black dragon plays a major role at the beginning of the game during the {{Luminary}} and [[Erik]]'s escape from the dungeons of [[Heliodor]] Castle. After losing the trail of a group of Heliodorian guards in the sewers, the duo find themselves in a dragon's lair and accidentally rouse the Black dragon sleeping there. They are forced to make a run for it as it is far too powerful for them to face at this point. 

Although it is possible to defeat the dragon by leveling up enough, the story will still progress if the two manage to escape from it, as well. The player can receive the Accolade '''Dragon Slayer''' after defeating it.
