The Flowing dress has a {{Defence}} bonus of +35 in the original, and +65 in all other versions, and can be worn by all three characters. It reduces damage taken from fire attacks by 50% and damage caused by [[List of world map terrain in the Dragon Quest series|swamps and magma tiles]].  The robe is obtained by giving the [[Subtle Shuttle]] and [[Celestial skein]] to [[Don Calico]] in [[Slewse]]. The don does not finish his work until the player saves and then restarts their game or rests at an inn in the remakes.
* In the original version, a second copy of the dress can be obtained by gathering the skein and shuttle again. This only works the first time. Because Don Calico wove it specifically for her, the dress cannot be received if the [[Princess of Moonbrooke]]'s inventory is full.

The Flowing dress top has a {{Defence}} bonus of +29, a {{Style}} bonus of +12, a {{Magical Might}} and {{Magical Mending}} bonus of +24, increases the wearer's Weight by 1, and reduces Fire damage taken by 10%. It has an equipment level of 42 and can be equipped by [[Mage]]s, [[Priest]]s, [[Fortune Teller]]s, [[Druid]]s, and [[Death Master]]s, as well as [[Raguas]] and [[Fuura]] in the ''Offline'' version of the game.

Like many equipment pieces in ''X'', the flowing dress is divided into sections for the upper and lower bodies. The entire set consists of the top, bottoms, a circlet, and anklets. If all four pieces are equipped, Fire damage is further reduced by another 20%. It can be crafted by a tailor or with the [[Fun-Size Forge]].

The Flowing dress appears as a S-rank piece of armor as part of the original ''Dragon Quest II'' event that can be received as a reward for defeating [[Atlas]] in a Mega Boss Battle or purchasable from the Swap Shop for 500 ''DQII'' medals each. The robe has a DEF bonus of +10, a WIS bonus of +7, and increases resistance against [[Status effect|Hobble]] by 10%. It can only be equipped by Magic, Support, and Debuff units and has three slots for Alchemy Effects. The potential alchemy effects include further boosting Hobble resistance, increasing resistance against Frizz-type attacks and spells, and boosting DEF, WIS, or AGL.
