==Etymology==
Jade's original Japanese name, Martina, is the feminine form of the Roman name Martinus. The name ultimately derives from Mars, the Roman god of war<ref>[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_(mythology) Mars, Roman god of war]</ref>, and befits her role as a martial artist. This is also referenced in her outfit "The Minerva"; Minerva is the Roman goddess of war<ref>[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minerva Minerva, Roman goddess of war]</ref>. Martina was also a third-century patron saint of the city of Rome<ref>[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martina_of_Rome Martina, patron saint of Rome]</ref>.

Her localised name, Jade, is derived from the ornamental stone of the same name, which is used in jewelry and artwork. Her name also follows the Heliodorian naming scheme of precious stones (like Jasper, Carnelian and Heliodor). Jade is also a shade of green, which fits the majority of her default outfit as it is coloured a light shade of green. Jade was greatly valued in Asian countries, similarly to how Jade (the character) is a princess.
