He appears both as part of the game's main story and in the {{Dragon Quest IV}} story event.

Years before the story began, [[Gaius]] killed him, making the land of Batraccia safe again. Sometime around the time the story begins, Dothradeth revives the Marquis, and allows him to wreck havoc again. His main goal nowadays is marrying the Elf Queen, but he is stopped by Gaius's grandkids. He is later revived and powered up -gaining new powers, appearence and even a new name: '''Lichard the Lionheart'''-, but he is once again stopped by the [[party]].

There is a cosmetic hair designed after him: Marquis de Léon's Hair.
