In the original NES version, the con man at the equipment shop in [[Asham|Assaram]] will sell it for '''40,000''' gold, but can be convinced to reduce the price down to 5,000 gold, while it can be purchased in [[Theddon]] for 2,500 gold. It can be sold for 1,875 gold. The staff is the strongest weapon for Mages in all versions except for the GBC version.
