==Characteristics==
Oddball [[Aquatic family|octopi]] that swim to the surface only when the tides are at their most turbulent and truly in turmoil. They have evolved a long, strong trunk that's useful for sucking food from the ocean floor, but also for slapping at enemies. Their immense size means that they can launch themselves into the air with all eight legs and land on enemies with a dangerous trampling attack. In the ''[[Dragon Quest Illustrations: 30th Anniversary Edition]]'' book, the octophant appears with a purple and orange coloration and red eyes. However, this coloration would be used for the [[devilfish]] in the {{NES}} version of the game, while the octophant was colored light blue and green. When the octophant returned in {{VII}}, it has its purple and orange coloration again.
