Lava lumps can be collected from [[Newid Isle]] and the [[Wyrmsmaw]], has an 8% chance of being found in [[List of treasure map treasure chest ranks in Dragon Quest IX|rank 2]] (H) blue treasure chests, or dropped by [[Bagma]]s, [[Live lava]]s, [[Magmalice]]s, [[Scarlet fever]]s, [[Admirer]]s, [[Terrorhawk]]s, and the [[Master of Nu'un]]. It can also be found randomly in the fountain at a fully upgraded [[Quester's Rest]]. It can be sold for 42 gold. Lava lump is used in the following alchemy recipes:

Lava lump is used as a material for crafting weapons, armour, and furniture. It can be purchased from a material shop for 200 gold, picked up from sparkly spots, or dropped by various monsters, including [[Rockbomb]]s, [[Grillerpillar]]s, and [[Face invader]]s.

Lava lumps can be picked up from sparkly spots in [[the Hotto Steppe]], [[Mount Huji]], and [[the Hotto Steppe - Northern Whale Way Station]]. It has a {{fraction|1|16}} chance of being dropped by [[Face invader]]s, [[Lava lampling]]s, and [[Rockbomb]]s, and a {{fraction|1|32}} chance of being dropped by [[Firebird]]s and [[Hot dog]]s. It can be sold for 90 gold.

Lava lump can be collected from red crystals on [[Cinderback Ridge]] or sometimes received by sending a dispatch team to the Bloodleaf Boulevard or Cold Shoulder Central areas of Cinderback Ridge. It is mainly used for crafting pellets at the Werks or for scouting monsters.
