The town is an optional location as it does not possess any key items for completing the game. It serves as a rest area for completing two nearby side quests: the [[Skyfell Tower]] and the [[dreamstone]] quest. The town is home to the grave of a famous martial artist who is said to have killed a [[Ursa minor|bear]] unarmed, but his ghost can be spoken to at night. He cheekily reveals that he actually used a set of [[iron claw]]s, and recommends them for any [[Martial Artist]]. A bounty hunter from [[Romaria]] is in the village as well, attempting to find clues as to the whereabouts of [[Robbin' 'Ood]]. The town is home to the second bar in the game, where one patron gossips about the spell of eternal slumber being set upon the village of [[Norvik]] for angering the {{Faerie}}s and another brushing it off as ludicrous--this is the player's first hint of the nature of the [[dreamstone]] sidequest.

Khoryv is also the first opportunity in the game to acquire the [[Poison needle]], which can be found in a [[treasure chest]] in the [[item shop]] at [[Day-night cycle|night]].  This is the only opportunity to acquire one until much later in the game when they can be purchased in [[Persistence]]. They are also rarely dropped by enemies in various locations.

The mountain village is now a heavily forested mountain village, with mighty fir trees filling the map and the graveyard is now set on a tall hill. A bounty hunter NPC looking for [[Robbin' 'Ood]]  has been added to remind players that the thief in the [[Skyfell Tower]], and a [[List of recruitable monsters in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake|wandering healslime]] floats about in the evening. An old man and a thug in bar now mention that [[Ortega|a powerful wanderer]] passed through a decade ago.
