Editing Staff

Staffs are recurring type of weapon, appearing in the [[Dragon Quest (series)|Dragon Quest]] franchise. This weapon is favored by magical characters such as [[mage]]s, [[priest]]s, and [[sage]]s. Several of them can also cast spells if used as a tool during battle.

Notable staves in the series include the [[Lightning staff]] and and the [[Magma staff]].

All three characters can use staffs.

===[[Dragon Quest III]]===
Staffs are restricted to [[priest]]s, [[mage]]s, and [[sage]]s.

===[[Dragon Quest IV]]===
Staffs can be used by [[Kiryl]], [[Borya]], [[Meena]], and [[Maya]].

===[[Dragon Quest V]]===
Most staffs could be used by [[Bianca]], [[Nera]], and the [[Hero's Daughter (Dragon Quest V)|hero's daughter]]. Some can also be used by the [[Hero (Dragon Quest V)|the hero]] though.

===[[Dragon Quest VIII]]===
Both [[Jessica]] and [[Angelo]] can equip staves, though there are some slight differences in their skill sets.

===[[Dragon Quest IX]]===
Somewhat confusingly, the "staff" skill in ''Dragon Quest IX'' refer to quarterstaff weapons, almost all labeled "poles." These weapons can be equipped by [[martial artist]]s and [[priest]]s. Once a character fully masters the Staff skill, they can freely use poles with any vocation.

The ''actual'' magic staffs are under the "Wand" skill set, despite each of them named "staff." These weapons can be equipped by [[mage]]s, [[priest]]s, [[paladin]]s, [[armamentalist]]s, and [[sage]]s. And once a character fully masters the Wand skill, they can freely use "staffs" with any vocation.
