The mountainclever is found near the corpse of Simão within the Shrine of Shackles. Another mountaincleaver can be found the in Cloudsgate Citadel 3 in the various remakes of the game.

It can be wielded by both The Hero 3 & Warriors, and has the Attack bonus of +51 (+48 in the NES version).

By throwing the sword into the volcano east of Isis, it will open the path to the Maw of the Necrogond. The sword can also be equipped as a normal weapon before being thrown in the volcano, after which it is removed from the player's inventory.

DQ3HD
Unlike prior versions, the HD-2D remake buffs the Mountaincleaver substantially, up to a bonus of +74 attack. This makes it the best weapon available to the Hero up until that point, and is actually worth using. It should be noted that while the player will be prompted to throw the blade into Mt. Necrogrond as part of the storyline, the weapon will not actually be removed from your inventory until after the Garboyle fight - it will remain exactly where it is until the monster is slain, and as such it is perfectly safe to have one of your party members use it against the fiend.
Bazoom and Blasto refer to a recurring spell in the DQSeries.

It tries to remove a single enemy in battle, and if successful then no Experience Points or gold will be counted for the expelled MFamilies at the end of combat.

Appearances
DQ3
The spell is learned by Priests & Sages at Level 20. and costs 7 MP to cast.
If your characters are hit by the spell, they will wind up back at Patty's tavern, though The Hero 3 is immune to the spell until Zoma is defeated in the remakes. The HD-2D Remake changes this drastically: characters ejected by the spell will return at the end of the battle, although they will not get any EXP for it. As a result, the Hero is no longer immune to it.

The enemies Hades' Condor, Phoenix, Crone ranger, Great troll, Baramos, and Soul of Baramos can use this spell against the Party 3.

DQ6
This spell is obtained by advancing to either Rank 6 of the Armamentalist vocation or rank 3 of the Sage vocation, and now costs 8 MP. Bazoom is typically inaccurate, using a 50%, 20%, 10%, and 0% success rate ratio instead of the typical 100%, 85%, 50%, 0% used by nearly all status inflicting spells and abilities in VI. This rate is shared with Poof.

The enemies Gryphon and War gryphon use it against the Party 6.

DQ7
Bazoom features the same success rate and cost as in the previous game and is once again learned by reaching rank 6 of the Armamentalist and, in the version, rank 4 of the Hero V} vocation.

DQ8
"Blasto" is used by enemis of the Bird Family (Garuda, Hell condor, Gryphon, Dark condor, Elysium bird, and Phoenix) to remove your monster arena team if you call them into battle. Monsters that have this spell will typically cast it the first turn they have after the MFamilies team is called in.

DQTact
Bazoom can be learned by Elysium bird at level 26 and costs 24 MP to use. It has a range of three squares in front of it and sends the target backwards up to five spaces. Upgrading the spell reduces the amount of MP it costs to cast.
Etymology and localization
Bashiruura is derived from ruura, the Japanese name for the Zoom spell. The meaning behind this is that zoom is being cast on the user's enemies, hence the total removal from battle. How the spell can be used indoors is never fully explained, with the assumption being that the spell either generates enough force to break through walls and ceilings to expel the target or warps space to teleport the victim away from the caster. The latter interpretation was used in the Dragon Quest Monsters + manga.

On the other side of the Pacific, the spell is unique in that it simultaneously possesses two localization names under Square Enix. First localized as Blasto for the 2005 release of VIII, it was assumed this would be the new term associated with it until the 2011 release of the DS remake of VI. In that script it was dubbed Bazoom, being a more faithful adaptation of the wordplay found in the original Japanese version. In 2014, the Cell phone localization of III reverted back to the Blasto term, which was reverted back from yet again in the remake of VII in 2016. Currently, Bazoom is the latest term associated with the spell.

The Bones of Baramos is a recurring MFamilies that was first introduced in Dragon Quest III.

A literal shell of his former self, Baramos' rotten corpse is reanimated by Zoma's sorcery to delay the Hero 3 and Party 3's advance. It has gone on to appear as both a boss and a recruitable monster in other games.

Characteristics
In its original appearance and most games, the Bones of Baramos is merely a different colour scheme of Skelegon.
Although their designs differ in two principal reasons: the colour of the bones and the colour of the eyes.
The colour of the bones is a deep shade of purple (since purple is the color of death in Japan) and the colour of the pupils of the eyes are white, instead of blue.

However, in Emblem of Roto, DQM3D, and in Iru and Luca's Marvelous Mysterious Key his design is completely different: instead of merely being the skeleton of Baramos, it is now an actual zombie, reflecting the monster's Japanese name. This is proven by the fact that some flesh is still held into the bones and because this zombie still wears the cape that Baramos wore in life. The skin shown is a sickly shade of green, really zombie-like, the bones are still purple, but the eyes are a solid blue. The cape's colors are more darker and the cape itself has been torn in different sections.

Monster Battle Road Victory features a completely different design, instead simply being another palette swap of Baramos himself with a purple body and robes in a different shade of purple.
Strategy (HD-2D Remake, Draconian)
Once again, this boss got a massive buff in the HD-2D Remake. 2-3 actions a turn, ~300 HP regeneration, and Attack Attacker are bad enough, but the beast got Double Up too, which will delete even the bulkiest character in one hit, through multiple layers of Kabuff.

Before you ask, BoB is Snooze-immune, so no dice. Instead, your only real option is to kill it before it kills you, as long-term survival simply doesn't exist with how much Double Up does even through Kabuff stacks. Still, it's usually worth it to get 3-4 Kabuffs up, as they will let your party survive 1-2 more extra hits. If you have means to get extra evasion, use them. BoB's defense isn't 0 anymore; Sap works and is fairly reliable, so use it if relying on physical damage. Otherwise, spam as much Kazap and Kafrizz as you possibly can and hope BoB misses his attacks and doesn't use Double Up.

DQ10
Bones of Baramos began appearing in Version 1.5.4 of the game as a rare boss in the Magical Labyrinth, as well as one of the so-called "Three Legendary Demons" along with the Baramonster and King hydra.
Bones of Baramos appears as a minor boss in the Dragon Quest III story events, as well as in Guided by Rubiss Light. In both cases it appears in the boss rush prior to facing Zoma.
Bones of Baramos appears as a S-rank MFamilies of the Undead family and appears as a boss during the original Dragon Quest III event, eventually appearing on its own banner during the second part of the Silver Week event alongside Skeleton swordsman. It could eventually be scouted from any limited banner, as well. Bones of Baramos can be faced in Chapter 5, Episode 3: Baramos? of the Dragon Quest III event quests.
Strategy (HD-2D Remake, Draconian)
The initial fight at the Tower of Rubiss isn't that bad. Just make sure to run the full complement of 7 Asbestos Earrings to neuter Kafrizz and Inferno, keep buffs up and clear out the Ashdemon support and he shouldn't be too much of a problem.

His rematch in the bottom of Zoma's Citadel is a different story. Blasto being a possibility as soon as the fight starts combined with 2-3 actions and Thwack throws reliability off the table, as Asbestos Earrings stacking won't save you now. However, unlike the older versions, he is not immune to Snooze this time around, with ~50% resistance like the King Hydra. Therefore, the strategy is still the same: have the Duplic Hat holder outspeed him with Snooze to deny him as many turns as possible. As long as the Duplic Hat holder isn't Thwacked or ejected by Blasto, the party should have little issue surviving the rest of SoB's moveset, and due to a lack of passive regeneration on the boss, shouldn't have much problem simply healing off any damage taken during the turns where SoB isn't asleep.
Strategy (HD-2D Remake, Draconian)
King Hydra got a massive buff in the HD-RD Remake, with 2-3 actions a turn and both Sweet Breath and War Cry to reliably trap the party in an endless cycle of not having actions. However, he has a major weakness in only having 50% resistance to Snooze.

The easiest way to handle him is just to Snooze-lock him with the Duplic Hat. As long as your caster outspeeds King Hydra (which is easily achieved using the Meteorite Bracer), then you have a 75% chance that one of the two Snooze casts will go off successfully, and regardless on whether or not King Hydra wakes up later that turn, he will still have lost all of his actions for the turn, allowing your other characters to focus on dealing damage without worrying about being disabled or killed. If 75% reliability isn't cutting it, a second, sufficiently fast, party member can also help by Fairy Fluting the King Hydra to bring reliability to 87.5%. On the off chance that King Hydra does in fact get an action, the chances that he will then use his one turn to completely turn the tables on you are still quite low. Thus, probabilistically speaking, your party will run King Hydra out of HP before he gets the chance to do anything seriously dangerous to your party, and if he does somehow ruin your run on the few turns where he isn't asleep, you may as well take the wipe and try again.
Morph is a spell in the DQSeries.

Effect
Whichever ally the spell is used on allows the caster to take on the attack & defense power, as well as the abilities of the target.

The spell is also a fan-favorite when used by enemies, as the beasts' sprites are replaced with those of the targeted hero and thus provide a rare glimpse of the main characters in mid-battle.

Appearances
DQ3
The spell is learned by both Mages and Sages at Level 37 and costs 12 MP. Special effects of weapons and armor are not copied, but the special effects of the user's equipment are used despite their stats not being used. As such, it is highly powerful in conjunction when copying a high-Attack ally (such as a Warrior) while the user themselves has a weak weapon with a strong special effect (such as Falcon Blade or Boomerang); the user will be able to use their powerful weapon without being held back by their weapon's low base Attack.

In the original NES version, if a character under the effect of Transform attempts to cast a spell from the person they have transformed into, and Zoma casts Disruptive Wave before they get to act, that spell will still be cast even if it happens after Disruptive Wave in the turn order and even if the Transform caster does not themselves know the spell. In all subsequent remakes, if Disruptive Wave hits before a Transform caster gets to act, they will lose their action that turn.

DQ4
The spell is used by Eliza to pose as The Hero 4 so that he/she won't be killed by Psaro the Manslayer's army. She demonstrates the spell earlier in the Prologue in the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo DS versions, in which she turned into a frog & rabbit.

It is also used by Float-o-copiers, but can be undone by use of the Zenithian sword and the Ra's Mirror.

The Hero can also learn it at Level 30, but only in the NES Version.

DQ5
Admirers are the only foes that will cast Morph, and will only copy the recruited monsters the player has in their party. If none are present, the Admirer will never cast the spell.

DQ6
The spell is only usable by Devil glasses, Haunted mirrors and Infernal panes. These transformations can be undone by the Ra's Mirror.

The mirrors display a character's over world sprite in the SFC and thus have not attack animations, but were given very detailed and smoothly animated sprites in the DS remake.

DQ7
Admirers and Knight shifts make use of the spell in both versions of the game. In the original PSX, a static sprite would be utilized while a moving 3D model would appear in the 3DS version. In either case the transformation would only reflect the character's default appearance and disregard vocations and equipment.

DQ8
A young girl in Alexandria expresses an interest in mastering the spell (referred to in the game as Transform), despite Jessica recommending her to start from the bottom with simple spells like Frizz. If she's visited later, she will demonstrate being able to use the spell, but not being able to control the results very easily as she wanted to become a Hammerhood, but turns into a Rockbomb and then a Walking corpse before reverting back.

DQ11 S:Definitive Edition
The Hero 11 and party are sent to the Hidden Valley prior to the events of Dragon Quest IV as Eliza is still perfecting the spell. The spell is undone by them through the use of the Supreme sage's staff.

DQM
Called Transform in this game, it requires the monster to reach level 21 with 92 HP and 88 intelligence. It is naturally learned by the Copycat and MadMirror.

DQM2
Transform now requires 159 intelligence to learn. It is naturally learned by the CatMage.

Critical Hits are a recurring feature of the DQSeries.

Function
Every time any character makes an attack, they have a small chance of that attack being a "Critical Hit," (会心の一撃, Kaishin no ichigeki, lit. "satisfying blow/hit") which drastically increases the damage dealt on that particular turn. Since critical hits ignore defence, it makes them an instant kill on all metal monsters, provided the monster does not dodge the critical hit. Weapons that strike multiple times, such as the Falcon knife earrings, can strike critically, but weapons that strike multiple targets cannot (Flails, Whips, Boomerangs).

However, many MFamiliess also can get critical hits, usually termed a terrific blow, brutal hit, or desperate attack (痛恨の一撃, tsūkon no ichigeki). For MFamiliess, there are different variations of critical hits: the first of which simply ignores the target's defence, much like the critical hits landed by playable characters. The second variation lands an attack that simply deals 250% the amount of their normal attack. Some MFamiliess and bosses also have a variation which deals a fixed amount of damage, as well.

Appearances
DQ & DQ2
The critical hit rate is fixed at 1. Monsters gained the ability to land critical hits starting in the second game.

DQ3 & DQ4
Martial Artists and Tsarevna Alena have rate depends on their level, being calculated as Level/256. The cap is level 64, with a rate of 25%.

In the Nintendo DS and Cell phone versions of IV, Alena's critical hit rate was tweaked to (Level x 0.75)/256. In the Nintendo DS version, the effect stops at level 64 still, making her critical rate cap at 18.75%; however, the Cell phone version raises the cap to level 89, granting her a rate of 26.07% - provided, of course, the player is willing to raise her that high.

DQ5
The critical hit rate returns to 1 and cannot be improved. Certain MFamiliess and bosses will land desperate attacks that deal a fixed amount of damage, such as Hammerhoods, Urnexpecteds, King Korol and Nimzo in his second form.

DQ6 & DQ7
Characters have the standard 1 rate unless they become martial artists at Alltrades Abbey. After taking up the art of the fist, the character's rank in the vocation will improve their chance to land a critical until they hit the cap of 1 at rank 8. This gives a party of Martial Artists a 50% chance to score a critical when using normal attacks and single-target skills that utilizes their strength stat.
*Paladins have a similar vocation trait, in that they have a chance to instantly slay a target based on rank. Though this will not work on boss MFamiliess, it will still slay Metal slimes at a 1 rate when mastered.

DQ8
A character will double their critical hit rate to 1 after investing enough skill points in the appropriate section. Yangus can raise his rate to 1 by equipping the Megaton hammer.

Enemies that can perform a desperate attack include Hammerhood, Crème caraslime, Brownie, Dead Bowdy, Gorerilla, Pink pongo, Gold golem, Cherreevil Blossom, Metal slime knight, Cyclops, Gold golem, Troll, Golem, Abominape, Beelzebuzz, Tyrantosaurus, Red horn, Stone golem, Dark dullahan, Dark sabrecat, Box of Tricks, Gemon, Boss troll, Great troll, Gigantes, Mimic king, Megalodon, Rhapthorne in his first form, Heavy hood, Hell's gatekeeper, Pandora's box, Coffer of death, Juggerwroth, the Lord of the Dragovians in his Vermillion, Silver, Golden, and Divine forms, Geyzer in Memoriam, Tortured Soul in Memoriam, Skeleton in Memoriam, Walking Corpse in Memoriam, Trap Box in Memoriam, Don Mole in Memoriam, Soul Mole in Memoriam, Great Argon Lizard in Memoriam, Darkbird in Memoriam, Dark Turkey in Memoriam, Sir Leopold in Memoriam, Dark Servant in Memoriam, Dancing Flame in Memoriam, Ruin in Memoriam, Shadow in Memoriam, Marcello in Memoriam, and Dhoulmagus in Memoriam.

Infamous Monsters who can perform a desperate attack include Arges, Brontes, Steropes, Brickman, Stoneman (Recruit), Goldman (Recruit), Digby (Infamous Monster), Dugan, Lonely Joe, Michael J., Mudison, Orrid, Pa Troll, Pierce, Ray Churls, Snap Case, and Spot (DQ8).

DQ9
Beginning in Dragon Quest IX and carrying forwards to X and Heroes, the frequency of critical hits became dependent on a character's deftness.

For IX, the algorithm is Deftness/100 + 3% (with weapon skill trait boost). Wearing the Critical Acclaim will add another 4%, and thus the maximum rate is (999/100) + 3% + 4% = 16.99% at 999 deftness, the critical hit up skill trait and the Critical Acclaim revocation medal.

As an example, if you have a character with 211 deftness and 22 skill points invested in their Sword Skill (and they don't have the Critical Claim revocation medal), when they attack with a sword they'll have a (211/100) + 3% = 5.11% chance to crit.

The natural, unbolstered rates for each vocation are:
{| style="width:65%; height:100px; text-align:center" border="1"
DQ10
Stub

DQ11
Every 200 points of Deftness increases the critical hit chance by 1%, leading to a natural cap of 5%. Skill panel, pep boosts and equipment bonuses can raise this chance even further. Also, for the first time in the series, Boomerangs are able to land critical hits.

SSB5
Critical Hits are a unique trait to Hero Smash's moveset in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. His Smash Attacks have a 1/8 chance to result in a Critical Hit, which doubles both the damage and knockback. The Critical Hit sound effect from the DQSeries plays when it occurs. His Hatchet Man command in his Down Special: Command Selection will always result in a Critical Hit should it connect.

Weapons
Certain weapons can guarantee the chances of a character getting a critical hit in exchange for low accuracy. The Hela hammer has an accuracy of 3/8ths, the Headsman's axe has a 3/4ths accuracy, a 1/8th chance to critical, and a 1/8th chance to miss outright. The Megaton hammer has a 1/8th critical chance and no reduction to accuracy at all.

These weapons would lose these traits as the series adopted deftness-based calculations with the ninth entry, and would often simply be powerful members of their respective weapon families in subsequent games.

Skills
With the implementation of skills in V, certain abilities were designed with instant critical hit rates in mind. These skills would often have a paltry MP cost, but suffer the same low accuracy as the above mentioned weapons in older titles.
*Hatchet Man
*Thunder Thrust
*Frenzy
*Whopper Chop

Spells
DQ9
Beginning with IX spells can also land critical hits, where the spell "goes haywire". This not only increases damage output of attack magic, but also boosts healing spells. If a status-changing spell goes haywire, its chance of working increases to 100% (barring the target being immune). Investing 54 skill points into the Mage's Spellcraft skill will increase the chance of a spell going haywire.

DQ11
By default, spells have a critical chance equal to half of that of a normal attack, but the Zam line instead uses twice the normal critical chance, or four times that of other spells. When a spell goes critical, it deals between 1.5x and 2x the normal damage (Zam line spells deal 2x to 2.5x damage instead); healing spells heal 1.2x to 1.6x the normal amount. Magic Burst, Fullheal and Omniheal can go critical, but the critical has no effect on the spell itself. The chance of a critical spell can also be boosted with certain pieces of equipment, most of which are restricted to Veronica 11 and Rab. Additionally, all three of the main spellcasters in the party (Veronica 11, Serena 11, and Rab) will receive boosts to their critical spell chance when they are pepped up.
The Sphere of Light, or Ball of Light (光の玉, Hikari no Tama), is an important magical item in the DQSeries during the Erdrick trilogy.
As the story opens, the Dragonlord, the game's primary antagonist, kidnaps Princess Gwaelin and steals the Sphere of Light, depriving Alefgard of its light, and allowing him to unleash monsters upon it. Upon his defeat, the Sphere of Light falls into the possession of the Hero 1 and marks the end of the main story.

DQ3
The Sphere of Light (called Light Orb in the Game Boy Color version), is obtained from the Dragon Queen at her castle and is instrumental in defeating Zoma. It removes the protective magical barrier around him. It is, however, technically optional, although defeating Zoma without it is extremely difficult.

DQH
Gragwort gives the Heroes team the Sphere of Light at the beginning of their confrontation with Zoma, thus allowing them to dispel the protective barrier around him. Even without this barrier, Zoma is one of the most difficult boss battles in the game.

This is a list of personality types in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation.

Personalities are a game mechanic added to the remakes of Dragon Quest III which affect character stat growth. The Hero is assigned one of 32 personalities through a test at the beginning of the game. Recruited members are assigned a personality based on their starting stats. Personalities can be changed throughout the game with the use of book items and by equipping certain pieces of equipment. There are a total of 45 possible personalities. Note that in most Dragon Quest games, stats are determined randomly at level up, or according to a specific distribution of growth.

The personality names were re-translated for the mobile and Nintendo Switch versions of Dragon Quest III. The Game Boy Color version of the game was the first official translation of the personality names, as the Super NES version of the game was never officially translated and released in English.

Analysis
Opinion #1:
The vamp personality is often regarded as the best due to its +70% composite stat bonus. For this reason, choosing female characters is often preferred since males cannot have said personality. Personality does not effect anything significant in the game other than stats, so it does not benefit the player to have any character with a personality that results in a negative overall composite total. Certain personalities are better for specific vocations; for example, a male martial artist that has a lucky devil personality will keep his traditionally high agility and add a high amount of luck. This allows him to evade debilitating spells more easily.

Opinion #2:
Since this is primarily a team-based game, personalities that give a large, focused increase in a particular stat are preferable to even spread options. Personalities such as paragon, bat out of Hell, wit, tough cookie and maybe even lucky devil.

Paragon obviously works well with physically inclined classes such as the warrior and martial artist, as it will make their attack rating skyrocket. Although their agility will suffer, they will be able to kill many monsters in scant few hits, if not one.

Bat out of Hell is best chosen through books later in the game. The vocations that would most benefit from the increased agility, spellcasters, cannot start with this personality. The other alternative is giving this to the martial artist to optimize his agility early and switch to another class or personality later on.

Tough cookie is an optimal choice for players who prefer durability. It either makes physical vocations even harder to kill, or gives precious HP to frailer ones like the mage and priest. The mage will especially enjoy the increase as it will allow him to better survive enemy attack spells, so long as you don't mind the drop in MP.

Wit increases your potential MP and is a promising choice for the hero, as Zoom, Kazap, and Omniheal are very expensive to cast. For other characters, wit is a possible alternative as it trades potential resilience for more agility.

Lucky devil and happy camper, while proving merely average stat gains, provide large increases in luck which make you much less likely to be affected by status effects. This is helpful for character with multiple abilities as they are vulnerable to various effects and are more likely to be physically weak. Princess is also a solid choice for Priests in particular, providing good bonuses in strength and wisdom on top of good luck.

Possible exceptions to the above are daredevil, vamp, and lone wolf. Daredevil provides above-average agility and resilience which provides a balanced defense along with better priority. Vamp is popular for its multiple above average stats with a possible weakness in its average resilience. Lone wolf has good increases in agility, resilience and wisdom. However, those increases are balanced by below average luck, which makes the character more vulnerable to status effects.

Hero
Paragon is a strong option for physically-inclined heroes. With it, they act as a glorified Warrior with very limited healing, but massive damage output.
Tough Cookie is a solid alternative that trades some damage for durability. Similarly, they act as a physical beatstick with little utility.
Wit is a niche pick on builds that try to capitalize off of the hero's powerful, but expensive spells such as Kazap and Omniheal. The hero will still have workable physical offense.

Warrior
Paragon is the most direct option. Slow, but hits like a truck.
Tough Cookie is the bulk-oriented alternative. Best placed at the front of the party to soak up hits.
Amazon is a solid alternative for ladies that trades a bit of firepower for extra agility and luck. As Warrior is prone to capping strength at 255 on most +strength personalities, the firepower loss is nonexistent by the lategame.

Martial Artist
Lone Wolf provides solid damage, good speed and extra bulk, at the expense of luck.
Tough Cookie provides extra strength and durability at a small cost of agility.
Bat out of Hell provides a lot of agility with no stat detriments.

Mage
Wit provides extra MP and solid durability, offsetting their normal squishiness.
Genius trades durability for extra MP and agility. Good at clearing out encounters before they get to attack.
Bat out of Hell provides lots of agility and workable durability and MP pools.

Hero personality quiz
At the start of a new game, the hero is asked a series of questions by an unknown source. These questions determine the hero's starting personality. The player is asked to enter their real name and birth date, however these inputs have no effect on the resulting personality test. The first question is randomly chosen from the 5 possible starting questions. Any of the 29 possible personalities can be obtained from any of the 5 starting questions. In total, there are 43 different questions that can be asked, including 1 question which can be asked twice.

At the end of each possible question chain is an imaginary scenario in which the hero must decide what to do. These scenarios determine the final personality. There are 8 different scenarios that can be played depending on the player's answers to the questions. Some scenarios have up to 5 possible personality results depending on the actions of the hero during the scenario.

The 32 possible starting personalities for a hero are:
When the game creates a character, it assigns the base stats for the character's class and gender, then adds a variable number of bonus stats, from 2 to 10, weighted toward central values. These bonus stats are distributed one at a time among the five stats, randomly.
The resulting resilience and wisdom then determine maximum HP and MP. Warrior and martial artist maximum MP is always 0. Otherwise, maximum HP/MP is calculated as resilience/wisdom multiplied by from 195 to 205, divided by 100, rounded down. In practice, 6 of the time, this results in an amount equal to resilience/wisdom doubled, and 5 of the time, this results in an amount one lower.

After the 2–10 bonus stats are distributed and HP/MP calculated, the player is given the opportunity to accept or reject the results. If the player accepts, the player can use five seeds to further raise the character's stats. Each seed will increase the single stat by 1–3 points. The seeds can be distributed manually or randomly by the computer if the player chooses that option. After the final starting stats have been determined, a calculation is performed to determine the personality.

The base values from the above table are subtracted from the final starting stats to get the bonus values, i.e. the amount by which each stat exceeds the base value for the character's gender and class. The five stats are ranked from highest to lowest bonus. If stats have an equal bonus, the base stat value is used to break the tie. If stats have an equal bonus and value, ties are broken randomly. Finally, a personality is chosen based on class, highest ranked stat and the value of its bonus, and sometimes the second highest ranked stat, gender, and weighted chance.
Altering personality
Personality can be altered during the game in two ways: a character can equip a piece of equipment which forces a specific personality, or a book item can be used which changes the character's base personality. Book items can be found throughout the game, with many hidden in bookcases and pots in towns. The most highly valued book is the Vamp book which is obtainable through one of the wishes the first bonus boss grants.
