Xenlon is an additional post-game boss made for the Super Famicom, Game Boy Color, and mobile remakes of Dragon Quest III. She is a green eastern dragon of immense age and magical capability, granting wishes to those able to best her in battle. Xenlon later appeared in the Dragon Quest Monsters series that was one of the most difficult monsters to synthesize.
Synopsis
She is found at the top of Zenith Castle, sleeping at the summit. She can be battled multiple times in order for a wish to be granted. Upon beating her, she will transport the party to the outside of the Castle of the Dragon Queen whether a wish is made or not.
*Create a Pachisi Track in the well of Zipangu (removed in mobile version).
This divine dragon is by far the strongest foe in the game, and will make Zoma look like a chump. She has immunity to every status debuff, and even Drain Magic, so the only way to approach this fight is with a full frontal assault with Oomph and Falcon Blades. Her specific action attacks like chewing on a character will ignore defence, so don't even bother with Kabuff. Instead, keep Acceleratele up at all times to make life easier for healers. Also, because Xenlon only has one spell and an equal chance to use any of her actions, Insulatle is a better idea than Bounce.

On the bright side, Xenlon has no resistances to offensive spells, meaning that if the hero has enough MP, you can cast Kazap over and over again to whittle down her health. Magi and Sages should only cast Kafrizzle when healing and buffing have already been covered for the turn.
Xenlon can be synthesized by combining four monsters: an alabast dragon, a boreal serpent, an ethereal serpent and Orochi. Xenlon is a Rank X monster, taking up two monster spaces.

Note
*In Dragon Quest III, due to Monster Medals being saved automatically, the player can save wishes by defeating her and getting all of her sets of medals, then resetting the game.
*This character is likely a tribute to Akira Toriyama's Dragon God Shenron. Not only do they look extremely similar (the only difference being Shenron's glowing red eyes), they also grant wishes.
The spell was handy in that it eliminated the need to have keys in the player's inventory, saving room for other essential items. With the addition of the bag in later games, the spell no longer was needed.
The sun crown appears in the 3DS version of the game. It has a defence bonus of +52, a style bonus of +35, and can be equipped by any character as long as they are level 35. It also immunizes the wearer from the effects of sleep and Kamikazee. It is dropped once by the darkonium slime boss in the Kooky Keep DLC Tablet.
The sun crown has a defence bonus of +52 and the now standard immunity to Snooze and Kamikazee. It can only be worn by the Hero and Jessica. It is made in the Alchemy Pot and can be sold for 37,000 gold. Although it is a powerful helmet in its own right, it is considered more valuable as an alchemy ingredient to be mixed with a Tough guy tattoo and Magic beast hide to create the Timbrel of Tension. Since there are only two skull helms in the game, there can only be two sun crowns, as well.
* In the 3DS port, Red and Morrie can also equip the helmet. The 3DS version also added a third sun crown to the game, being available as a reward from Cameron's Codex for completing the Archdemon stamp card.
Snooze is a spell that the Hero can cast under his Down special, Command Selection. The spell sends out a wispy projectile that flies directly forward. Enemies hit at a distance will be asleep for less time than those affected at close range. This spell can be used as a K.O. method against foes who are already off-stage, dropping them like stones.
Flame Slash deals damage based on the target's vulnerability to sizz, with 130%, 115%, 75%, and 30% being the possible modifiers. It is granted at the first rank of the Armamentalist vocation.

Dragon Quest VII
Flame Slash is acquired in the same manner as in the previous game, and possesses the same parameters.
Dragon Quest VIII
Flame slash is a sword technique that both the the Hero and Angelo can learn. It requires 15 skill points by the Hero, and 9 skill points by Angelo. Damage modifiers have not changed.
Zoom (ルーラ, Ruura, Ruler), is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series that allows for instantaneous transportation to previously visited locales.

Function
In the first game, the spell allows the protagonist to return to Tantegel castle. In the second game, it allows the party to return to the last place where the game was saved. In all games starting with the third, it gives a list of previously visited locations and allows the player to choose a destination. It (usually) does not work indoors, as it causes the party to hit their heads on the ceiling.

While the spell is assumed to be genuine teleportation, it is actually rapid flight on a linear path that the caster cannot directly control--hence why only familiar locations such as towns and kingdoms can be flown to. The recurring chimaera wing item casts this spell upon use.

In the original versions of each Chunsoft developed game, the spell would cost 8 MP to cast. Beginning with VI, the cost was reduced to just 1 MP, with remakes of the older titles being adjusted accordingly.

Appearances
Dragon Quest
Return is learned at level 13, and requires 8 units of MP to use.

Dragon Quest II
Return is learned by The Prince of Cannock at level 10. Until the release of the mobile phone version in 2014, Zoom would only return the party to the location where they last saved their game.

Dragon Quest III
Return is learned by The Hero at level 7, and both Mages & Sages at level 12.

The Hero can learn it in battle with the use of a glitch, though to use it prevents the spell from being learned in the field.

Dragon Quest IV
Zoom is learned by The Hero at level 7, Borya at level 9, and Maya at level 8, and is already known by Psaro upon joining. Note that the destination list resets after each chapter.
The hero learns Zoom after helping Prof. Toilen Trubble with his research in the town of Zoomingale, and this event is required to advance the plot. None of the other party members that can learn the spell are encountered until after this. The spell is used as a plot device at certain events, such as if the hero marries Nera or Debora, and is later used by his daughter to carry him home after rescuing him. This marks the first installment that used a spell as a plot event.

Dragon Quest VI
Zoom is learned by Ashlynn and the Hero at level 8, and by Mercury at level 5. Other characters can learn it by advancing to either rank 3 of the Mage vocation or rank 4 of the Liquid Metal Slime vocation.

In the Nintendo DS version, after unlocking access to Alltrades Abbey, the spell can be upgraded by Madame Luca Luminista to enable warping between worlds.

Dragon Quest VII
Zoom is learned through the same method as in VI.

Dragon Quest VIII
The Hero learns this spell after investing 8 points into his "Courage" skill.

Dragon Quest IX
Zoom is a special ability learned exclusively by the Hero after a plot event. Unlike earlier games, it costs no MP to cast.
*In Dragon Quest V, it's suggested that transporting too many people with this spell at once causes physical strain or even unconsciousness, as the hero blacks out after transporting the wedding entourage to Ventuno Casino Ship.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Zoom is one of the spells that can be used by the Hero through his Down special, Command Selection. This costs 8 MP to use, and allows the Hero to instantly teleport back to the main platform of the stage.
*Chapters 55 and 56 of Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken elaborate on the Ruura spell and explain it as the ability to go to a place if you can form an image of it in your mind.
*In Dragon Quest V, it's suggested that transporting too many people with this spell at once causes physical strain or even unconsciousness, as the hero blacks out after transporting the wedding entourage to Ventuno Casino Ship.
Whack is a recurring spell in the Dragon Quest series. It instantly reduces the target's HP to 0, causing instant death. Whack and its advanced forms are in most games only learned by the pious and sagacious, implying that the spell is not common knowledge even among sorcerers.

Dragon Quest VII
Whack is a very hard spell to come by in VII, with only vocations to teach it being the Goodybag and Mimic.
Dragon Quest IX
Whack is learned by priests at level 20, and costs 5MP. The spell is dependent on the caster's Magical mending, meaning that once the stat reaches 50, it will slowly increase the base accuracy of 50% until it reaches 999, where the spell will be 100% accurate barring resistance.

In a nostalgic move, Psaro the Manslayer will cast the spell in his legacy battle.
Whack can be learned by Kiryl for 4 skill points and costs 5 MP to cast. Naturally, it is one of his iconic spells. When used, Kiryl will send out a dark incantation that tracks down a random monster and has a small chance to kill them instantly. Kiryl can upgrade the spell and cast Thwack by charging up Whack for a few seconds.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The Hero can cast Whack through his Command Selection ability. The spell costs 10 MP to cast and will send a purple orb forward horizontally. Contact with an opponent will result in either 1% damage being dealt or the foe dying on the spot, depending on a random chance that scales with how high that character's damage percentage is upon connecting with the projectile.

Trivia
*In an interview with Nintendo Power magazine, series creator Yuji Horii noted that the AI in Dragon Quest IV was built such that in its original version, Kiryl's algorithms would always conclude Whack (called Beat in this version) was the character's best offensive option against foes with high HP and the character would end up casting it turn after turn, simply because it "could not get over the power of the spell". The problem was halfway corrected in the balance-adjusted PS1 remake, except that Kiryl almost never casts Whack. A happy medium would be found in the AI for the DS version, carried forward for the cell phone ports.
Thwack is an instant-death spell that targets a whole group of enemies, stopping the heart (or nearest approximate). Typically, characters that take up the paths of Priests and Sages are the only humans that learn the whack line, giving the impression of the spell family being a case of "forbidden" magic reserved only for the most pious and disciplined.

The Legend of Zelda characters
*Link - The legendary hero of Hyrule, who has appeared in multiple incarnations over the course of time, wielding the Triforce of Courage and called upon by the three Golden Goddesses to wield the Master Sword and defeat the evil Ganon before the three pieces of the Triforce can be collected. Link has appeared in every SSB game since the original game, but holds the unique distinction of doing so in name only, as the first two games featured the Hero of Time from Ocarina of Time, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the 3DS/Wii U installments of Smash saw the inclusion of the Hero of Twilight from Twilight Princess, and Ultimate replaced both with the Hero of the Wild from Breath of the Wild.

*Zelda - The Hylian princess and namesake of the franchise, who has also appeared in multiple incarnations over the course of time, wielding the Triforce of Wisdom, and kidnapped by Ganon to have the second Triforce piece. Similar to Link, multiple incarnations of Zelda have appeared in Smash, with Super Smash Bros. Melee, her debut Smash game, featuring her Ocarina of Time incarnation, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the 3DS/Wii U installments of Smash featuring her Twilight Princess incarnation, and Ultimate featuring her A Link to the Past incarnation (with some design cues taken from A Link Between Worlds). The character can be unlocked by:
**Going through VS Matches, with Zelda being the 2nd character to unlock, or Classic Mode with Kirby and those in his unlock tree up to Pac-Man. After either condition is met, she must be defeated on Temple.
**Recruiting her in the Sacred Land in the World of Light.

*Ganondorf - The King of Evil too has appeared in multiple incarnations over the course of time, wielding the Triforce of Power and wanting all three Triforce pieces for himself so he can take over the land of Hyrule. Unlike Link and Zelda, however, Ganondorf is the same being, being cursed to be resurrected repeatedly until the end of time. Usually known by his moniker "Ganon", his Gerudo form takes on the name "Ganondorf", with the latter being able to transform into the former. Ganondorf, like Zelda, made his SSB debut in Super Smash Bros. Melee, appearing in his Ocarina of Time incarnation, before appearing in his Twilight Princess incarnation in both Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the 3DS/Wii U installments of Smash, before returning to his Ocarina of Time incarnation in Ultimate. The character can be unlocked by:
**Going through VS Matches, with Ganondorf being the 40th character to unlock, or Classic Mode with Yoshi and those in his unlock tree up to Ryu. After either condition is met, he must be defeated on Bridge of Eldin.
**Recruiting him in the Sacred Realm in the World of Light.

*Sheik - Debuting in Ocarina of Time, Sheik claimed to be a member of the Sheikah clan, and appeared at various times to help Link out, teaching him new songs to play on his ocarina. In the middle of the game, however, Sheik reveals herself to be Zelda in disguise, having used magic to change her appearance to avoid being captured by Ganondorf. Sheik debuted in the SSB series in a unique way, being the first transformation character - she and Zelda could swap between each other via a special move, changing their moveset entirely, before being separated in the 3DS/Wii U installments of Smash due to technical limitations of the 3DS. The character can be unlocked by:
**Going through VS Matches, with Sheik being the 47th character to unlock, or Classic Mode with Donkey Kong and those in his unlock tree up to King Dedede. After either condition is met, she must be defeated on Gerudo Valley.
**Recruiting her in the beginning segment in the World of Light - players have the option to choose between her, Marth, and Villager.

*Young Link - The younger version of the Hero of Time from Ocarina of Time, later continuing to adventure in Majora's Mask, appeared as a separate character from his older version in Super Smash Bros. Melee, and is one of two characters that did not make another playable Smash appearance until Ultimate, with the other being Pichu. The character can be unlocked by:
**Going through VS Matches, with Young Link being the 8th character to unlock, or Classic Mode with Link and those in his unlock tree up to Snake. After either condition is met, he must be defeated on Great Bay.
**Recruiting him in the Sacred Realm in the World of Light.

*Toon Link - The Hero of Winds, first debuting in The Wind Waker, had a more cartoonish appearance in comparison to the other incarnations of Link, and replaced Young Link in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, before appearing alongside him in Ultimate. The character can be unlocked by:
**Going through VS Matches, with Toon Link being the 44th character to unlock, or Classic Mode with Link and those in his unlock tree up to Richter. After either condition is met, he must be defeated on Pirate Ship.
**Recruiting him in Forest Hill in the World of Light.

Metroid characters
*Samus Aran - Famed bounty hunter known across the galaxy and raised by the Chozo, Samus debuted in the original Metroid, completion of which revealed the shocking surprise that, in spite of the game's manual using masculine pronouns, Samus was a woman. Samus has been a part of the SSB series since the first game.

*Zero Suit Samus - Debuting in Metroid: Zero Mission, this separate character was still Samus Aran, albeit in a skintight cyan suit instead of her Varia Suit.
