The Magmalice is a monster in the series.

Characteristics

Magmalices are elemental monsters made up from volcanic rock, with only the top of its head and its right arm protruding from the ground. It attacks by breathing out fiery breath of varying intensity. When they reappeared in Dragon Quest IX, they also gained the ability to psyche themselves up, smack enemies around with their giant hands, and toss boulders, as well. The monster's name is a play on the words "magma" and "malice". It is the fire equivalent of the firn fiend.

Hard to harm with earth or fire. One theory suggests that they are the lava limbs of mega moai that went the way of most magma and flowed free.

• Magmalices must be defeated during Quest #053: Magmalice Mania in order to receive a Magmalice handprint, which they will only drop while the quest is accepted. The quest can be repeated as many times as possible.
• Defeating three magmalices with Hatchet Man is one of the objectives of Quest #80: 'Atchet Job.
• One of the objectives of Quest #111: The Fource...Forever is to have a character defeat a magmalice while they are under the effects of Fire Fource.

Dragon Quest Tact

Magmalice appears as a C-rank monster of the Inorganic family as part of the True Dragon Quest III event. It can be scouted from the Jipang stage of Search for a Legend at any difficulty and it can participate in Robbin' 'Ood's Battle Road as a party member. The monster went by its old name Lavaman when it was introduced, but it was changed to Magmalice in a June 2023 update.
