The canny cap is a recurring hat in the Dragon Quest series. It typically boosts the wearer's wisdom or magical powers in some way, and has become part of the female Sage's modern design.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit | edit source]
The canny cap has no defence bonus, but boosts the wearer's Wisdom by 30. It can be equipped by all characters.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined[edit | edit source]
The canny cap returns in Reimagined. This time, the canny cap boost defence by 30 points, magical might by 30 points, and magical mending also by 30 points. It can be equipped by everyone buy Kiefer. It can be dropped by bodkin bowyers.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit | edit source]
The canny cap received a major redesign and is now part of the iconic attire for female Sages.

Dragon Quest X [edit | edit source]
The canny cap is not in Dragon Quest X directly. However, the 賢者のぼうし kenja no bōshi hat has the same exact design that the canny cap has in Dragon Quest IX. This hat is part of the sage's vocational outfit, and as such can only be equipped by sages over level 30. It is obtained by doing the Sage's vocational quest chain, it is specifically obtained upon compleating Quest 185.
