The Black bishop is a monster in the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Black bishops are towering warlocks that have their arms outstretched, wielding a wand topped with a red crystal in their right hand. They are draped in black, red, and purple robes that completely cover their bodies, with purple capes that reach down to their feet. These bishops have powerful explosive and instant death spells at their disposal, as well as the ability to emit blinding light from their bodies and send out freezing pulses that nullify beneficial effects from their opponents. They have a near identical appearance to a Beastly priest, although they wield a wand in their hands instead of a glaive-like polearm. A black bishop is the boss of the Tower of Trickery DLC Tablet.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Due to a naming error in the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII, the monster vocation is mistakenly named after the Black bishop in the English version, rather than the Beastly priest. If a character changes their vocation to a Black bishop, their character model will be transformed to that of a Beastly priest rather than the newer monster.
